This former school, located between the villages of Jakabszállás and Orgovány, was completely renovated in 2004-2005, yet has retained its original character. The school building contains 3 apartments and is quietly nestled among vineyards. Nevertheless, you can go shopping in the vicinity. In Orgovány there are several supermarkets, a butcher, baker, post office and a bank where you can exchange money. In Jakabszállás, about 3 km away, there are some good restaurants where you can eat for about 5-10 euro per person. The apartments have plenty of parking and each apartment has a private, furnished terrace. This place is great for families with children as the whole garden is surrounded by a typical Hungarian wooden fence.
The environs of Orgovány are quite varied and consist mainly of large plains and beautiful vineyards. In nearby Bugac-Puszta you can still find the old Hungarian culture. Explore the "puszta" via horse-drawn carriage or visit the Shepherd Museum. Then there is a spectacular horse show where riders show off their skills. There is a nice restaurant and souvenir shop here as well. You can also take lovely walks along the marked trails. Soltvadkert is located approximately 20 minutes (by car) from Orgovány. On the outskirts of the village you'll find a lake where you can swim. There are many other activities at this lake including a funfair and several small restaurants and discotheques. The entrance fee is about 400 forint (€ 1.50) for adults, children pay half. Kecskemet is a beautiful city with numerous art nouveau buildings. In the car-free center you can admire the beautiful bell towers and church domes. Every hour the carillon plays various works from the composer Kodály, who was born in this city. Even a visit to the Cifra Palota (The Colorful Palace) is worthwhile. In the Harom Gunar Restaurant (Three Geese) you can enjoy a delicious meal. From here you can board a narrow gauge train which runs between Kecskemét, Bugac-Puszta and Orgovány. This train makes several trips per day in summer. About an hour and a half away lies the pearl of the Danube: Budapest. This magnificent city is a must if you are in Hungary. The city has two parts: Buda and Pest. If you arrive by train, you disembark at the Nyugati Train Station in the district of Pest. From here you can tour the city on foot or by public transportation. In Pest you can visit the wonderful Parlament building, St. Stephen Basilica and Heroes Square. Via the Széchenyi (Chain) Bridge you can reach Buda. Buda is hilly and offers a wonderful view of the city. Attractions here include the castle with its Fishermen's Bastion and Matthias Church. You can also go shopping or relax at one of the many spas in the city. And after a day of walking and shopping, you can eat at one of the numerous convivial restaurants. From Kecskemét you'll find regular trains to Budapest.
